Nappy Words of Wisdom

Here are some Nappy Words of Wisdom that I received today from a friend. Portions bolded for emphasis..LOL

“Oh get over it and the shrinkage and all that. You'll be happier because you actually will have a "style". As well you do your hair more damage with the in between stuff. I thought about the grow out but then I remembered that I'm not as patient as I aspire to be AND I like to look coiffed:-). You will love your hair. Cut off the crap and get at it girl! Stop worrying about length. I was bald! Now I have a curly little fro. It’s damn sexy. Chat soon. Be phenomenally fierce and do your thing!”

Big Chop Countdown

Got the new corn rows in. I will likely end up getting one more set of corn rows before i big chop...basically 10 more weeks of rocking braids before I unleash my naps..lol

The big chop countdown is offically on!

Taking Down Corn Rows

So I took my corn rows out after having them in for 5 weeks. It was much easier to detangle than last time. I was shocked at how long my hair has gotten when stretched, but that really doesnt matter since I will be cutting down to the new growth sometime in May.

I can already tell what part of my hair will likely be more course. The back of my head detangles easy as pie, as well as the side and the front third, while the top of my head and the crown required some patience on my part..lol

Anyway, check out some pics of my afro after I took my braids down.

I Need to Just Cut this Shit Off Already!!!!

I took my kinky twist down yesterday...lord help me, it took nearly 2 hours to detangle my 6 month post relaxer hair. I was all set to chop this mess right off...do the big chop right then and there, but I remembered my original plan and decided to stick to it. I have no desire to learn how to care for my natural hair in sub-arctic Minnesota in the dead of winter...spring will be a much better time to set my naps free!!! For the next 2 1/2 months I will be rocking cornrows until I BC the first weekend in May. There is not way I wont to go through taking down smaller braids and trying to comb through this half relaxed half kinky mess on my head.

My husband thought the whole thing was funny and laughed at my head. He sent me this picture to work today.

Product Junkie

I am turning into a product junkie and I've only been transitioning for 4 months..lol I keep telling myself that I just want to be prepared for when I finally do the big chop in May and that if i buy a little bit each month it's better than buying all the stuff all once...yeah right.

At this point I'm about to put hair spending on ICE!!! I am about to limit myself. I don't want to end up with a bunch of stuff and having the products not work on my hair. So this is what I've purchased so far...hee hee

Komaza Care -coconut hair care kit (sample size)
Shea Moisture Leave-In Conditioner
Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner
Miss Jessie's Value Pack
Aloe Vera Gel
Shea Butter & African Honey
Fantasia IC Gel
Coconut Oil
Bomba-Deep Conditioning Treatment (Dominican hair product)
Trader Joe's Nourishing Spa Conditioner

I have been getting sample sizes of products when possible, so that I can test them out on my hair to see if they really work without committing to full size items with a full size price tag. My plan is to stick to a product line for at least a month before giving up on it an moving on to another. I am sure something in a line will work and some wont, but I want to give them a fair shake.

There are still a few more things I want in my natural hair arsenal:
Knot Today and Kinky Curly Curling Custard
Elasta OP-Mango Butter Moisturizer
Oyin Handmade -4 piece hair care sampler
Vegetable Glycerin

For the most part 99.9% of the products I have and want are "natural". Once I pickup the other things, I swear I ain't buying shit else until I use up the crap and have...who knows I may find what works for my hair right off the bat...LOL (could that be wishful thinking)

Damaged Edges

When I took my last set of braids out my edges didn't fair so well. My usual braiders sister braided my hair and obviously braided my edges to tight. Word to the wise that braids done to tightly can wreck your hair!! Check out my edges....they will grow back, but what a pain to have to deal with in the first place.

Kinky Twist

I got Kinky twist about a week ago. I have to say this is NOT my favorite braid style but I paid for it and sat in that chair for 4 hours so I will live with it for 6 weeks. I will say one thing though, kinky twist are very light, putting less stress on your hair and scalp. Here are a few pictures.
